Not the Best of Days

Day 18 out of 30 – The Minimalism Game

Items Discarded:

2 x Yoga Mats, 3 x Travel Books, 1 x stack of old business flyer designs, 1 x Postcard envelope stack, 6 x packs of custom postcards, 2 x packs of CD postage envelopes, 3 x ribbon spools, 2 x sticker designs, 1 x pack of dot paper bags, 1 x stack of mini business flyer designs.
The Why…

Today was a rough day. I had slept poorly, tossing and turning in the night with stomach cramps. I had a rough day at work, butting head with the boss and not agreeing on day-to-day operations of the business and chastised for things I did not do. So when I finished late today, all I wanted to do was watch a movie and go to bed. I was done. Buggered.

In fact, I was 20-minutes into Moana on Netflix when I forced myself to get up out of bed and write today’s Minimalism post. I’m brain dead and droopy eyed but still, I am writing. Pure determination pushing me through. Plus, I know I would be kicking myself in the morning if I didn’t write it.

Even though I would rather be doing just about anything else, my unwavering conviction has shed a new light on Minimalism. I’ve just discovered how incremented living a simple, minimal yet, meaningful life is in my values. If it wasn’t so important to me and the type of lifestyle I want to lead, I would still be snuggled up under my blanket happy as a bug in a rug!

Minimalism although satisfying and freeing is not always going to be easy and clear cut. There will be times I want to quit, times I want to forget it and purchase something frivolous or hold on to something old out of sentamint instead of practicality. But, with every stumble and struggle, I’ll learn more and get better at Minimalism – just one mistake at a time.

    1. Oh definitely. For me, Minimalism isn’t just about living with the bare essentials, but items that truely make you happy. I know what you mean though, when you look at everything on mass it is practically impossible to imagine. Just taking it one day at a time though has helped make it seem smaller. For me, one of the sentimental items I have kept is a Chess Trophy my dad had made for me after a Chess competition in Primary school. I didn’t win, I had come 5th or something that day but I was the top girl. He was so proud of me he surprised me and had custom made me trophy. “Jade Taylor. Best Girl”. That sentiment meant the world to me, so I still keep it and have it on display. I only have very few items like that, but only ones that have that level of intensity.

  1. Sorry you are feeling poorly.
I’m on Day 23 and I’m a bit struggling to find more stuff to discard. I have to go through the ex-home-office, kitchen and bathroom again, I suppose… I still am very much motivated to continue, though.
Best of luck with the minimalist challenge!

      1. Yes, exactly! :)))
I just spent 2 hours going through the pantry and some kitchen cabinets.
And there was me thinking the kitchen was done! 😛
I’ve got the next 2 days covered and then 2 more to go. I bet I’ll find more stuff… 😦
